Nature-inclusive honorary park strip veterans

As part of ‘!mpuls Slim Vergroenen Gemeentelijk Vastgoed’ of the UNaLab project, Smartland designed a nature-inclusive honorary park strip for Eindhoven veterans. The strip was designed as an extension of the entrance garden of the city hall and also in terms of concept and materialisation to match the new layout of the Dommel garden, between the City Hall tower, the Designhuis and the Dommel river.

The park strip was designed according to the Nature-based Solutions principle. The focus is on climate adaptation, combating heat stress and flooding and increasing the experiential value of nature and biodiversity in the city.

For the design of the strip, corten steel borders form a wide band with a text of honour and appreciation. The carnations in the flowerbed are not annuals but deliberately chosen as perennials. A sustainable management choice, as this avoids having to renew the bed every year and also allows year-round attractive integration with the other perennials in the entrance garden.

A special element is the insect hotel with the Veterans logo.
